Lawn Care 11th May 2022 Today we are going to discuss the importance of lawn care. The actions required to maintain a healthy lawn vary with each season. Everyone wants a pretty, green, healthy-looking lawn for the summer. It’s not always easy to maintain with inconsistent weather patterns, but with the right products, your lawn will be in good shape. Scott’s brand has a ton of products that will help you achieve your lawn goals.Clean up and mowing: Cleaning your yard and getting rid of dead grass and dead remnants of annual grassy weeds, crabgrass, goosegrass, and barnyard grass is a good start. You can use a lawn rake to do so. Pick up any sticks or debris that have accumulated over the changes of the seasons. The cleaner your yard is, the easier it is to mow. You will need a good quality mower for this. It is very important to mow high. Position your mower to cut grass at the highest possible setting for your grass type. It encourages thicker plants with deeper roots to grow. Healthy grass helps crowd out weeds. Apply fertilizer: This is especially helpful in the springtime. When lawns remain dormant for so long during winter, they wake up with the need to be fed. Scotts Turf Builder Triple Action will both strengthen your lawn while killing weeds like dandelion and clover. It also prevents future weeds. When fertilizing your lawn, you also need the right spreader. Scott’s Handy Green Hand Spreader is great for small yards. However, for bigger yards, I suggest using Scotts Edgeguard deluxe spreader. It will easily cover 15,000 square feet of lawns. Preventing weeds: To beat the weeds and treat wild dandelions or violets, you will need some sort of weed control/weed preventer for your lawn. You can try Scotts Lawn Pro Weed & Feed Weed Control + Fertilizer. By applying this product, you avoid disturbing grass roots and unearthing dormant weed seeds which tend to happen when you hand-weed. Patch and Thicken: If you have bare spots on your lawn, you can use a product like Scotts PatchMaster Lawn Repair Mix. If your lawn is thin and worn, you can thicken it with a product such as Scotts Turf Builder Thick’R Lawn. This product is specifically designed to thicken up lawns by combing grass seed, fertilizer, and a soil improver that is easily applied with a Scotts spreader. Watering and Treating for Grubs: In the summer, it is important to remain mowing high, but also treat for grubs, and water. Sharpen mower blades at least once a season to ensure a clean cut on individual blades of grass. This helps reduce moisture loss. If you notice dead patches or an unhealthy lawn, it could be from the invasion of beetles, grubs coming from your neighbors, or just a grub problem in general due to the weather. A good product to prevent these pests from munching their way through grassroots is to invest in Scotts GrubEx. The best time for application is before or just after grubs hatch (usually in late spring or early summer). Watering your grass during a hot summer is crucial if you want your grass to live. To keep it green, healthy, and growing, provide at least 1 inch of water per week, either through irrigation or rainfall. To minimize water loss and evaporation, the best time to water is between 6 and 10 am. Summer Feed: Both warm and cool-season grasses benefit from summer feeding. A suggestive product to help fuel warm-season grasses’ intense growth period and keep cool-season grasses from folding under heat and drought, is Scotts TurfBuilder Summerguard Lawn Food. This product will keep your grass healthier during summer weather conditions while also protecting your lawn from insect attacks. These are some of the most important products to invest in while trying to take care of your lawn during the spring or summer. All products above can be found here at Big R! Although we are about to transition from Spring to Summer, fall and winter lawn care is just as important. We also have a bunch of Scotts brand products specific to those seasons.
